Mysuru Layoffs: NITES Warns Protest as Infosys Defends Performance Evaluation Process

Mysuru Layoffs: NITES Warns Protest While Infosys Stands by Testing Policies

Pune-based IT workers’ union, NITES, has raised concerns over the recent Layoffs at Infosys’ Mysuru campus, threatening mass protests if the government fails to intervene. Meanwhile, Infosys defends its performance evaluation system, stating that all eligible trainees were given fair treatment.

NITES Raises Alarm Over Infosys Layoffs

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has strongly opposed the recent terminations at Infosys’ Mysuru campus, where over 300 trainees were let go after failing to clear internal assessments. The union has warned of a massive protest if authorities do not take necessary action.

In a statement, NITES emphasized the need for fairness and accountability, stating:

“We will continue to stand with these employees until they receive the fairness and dignity they deserve. Today we are politely requesting the authorities for justice, but if the government does not take appropriate measures, then NITES, along with all the employees, will not hesitate to start a massive protest outside the Infosys campus.”

Infosys Defends Its Evaluation Process

In response to the criticism, Infosys has reiterated that every trainee joins the company with a clear understanding of the performance evaluation criteria. The company stated that more than 98% of eligible trainees received their relieving letters, along with additional support such as outplacement services, severance pay, and counseling.

According to Infosys, all trainees sign an Apprenticeship Registration Form, acknowledging the training program’s policies and evaluation standards. The company bears the full cost of training, which includes structured testing procedures.

Infosys clarified that:

  • Negative marking is applied across all three attempts during evaluations.
  • Testing processes are clearly communicated to trainees at the time of induction.
  • Its training program is globally recognized for setting industry benchmarks.

Allegations of Unfair Assessment Criteria

Several former trainees alleged that the evaluation criteria and syllabus were altered, and intimidation tactics were used to justify mass layoffs. However, Infosys’ Chief Human Resources Officer, Shaji Mathew, denied these claims, stating that the company invests significant resources in trainee success and has no interest in their failure.

“It is in the interest of Infosys to see that all these people are successful.”

Despite these reassurances, Infosys continues to face public backlash and growing pressure from employee unions.

Conclusion

As tensions rise between NITES and Infosys, the IT sector is closely monitoring the situation. While Infosys insists on the fairness of its testing process, employee unions remain unconvinced, demanding more transparency and accountability.

Will the government step in to address the concerns? Or will the controversy escalate into a large-scale protest?
