Narayana Murthy Funds Inflation-Proof MBA at IIM Ahmedabad

Narayana Murthy Launches IIM Ahmedabad MBA Scholarship

Infosys founder Narayana Murthy introduced a unique inflation-adjusted scholarship at IIM Ahmedabad MBA Scholarship. It fully funds the two-year MBA for the institute’s top student based on academic performance.

Scholarship Covers Entire ₹36.2 Lakh MBA Cost

The Professor Jaswant G Krishnayya Merit Scholarship pays for tuition, hostel, mess, and study materials. The total cost can reach ₹36.2 lakh. The top first-year Post Graduate Programme (PGP) student qualifies for the award.

This scholarship considers only academic merit. It doesn’t require income proof or personal background information.

Valid for 20 Years and Adjusted for Inflation

Murthy pledged ₹12 crore through Catamaran Ventures LLP to fund the program. The scholarship runs for 20 years. Each year, the amount adjusts to match IIMA’s current MBA fees, protecting students from fee hikes.

In 2025, a two-year MBA at IIMA costs ₹34.15 lakh to ₹36.20 lakh, depending on accommodation. This makes it one of the most expensive MBA programs in India.

A New Benchmark in Indian MBA Scholarships

Other top IIMs like Bangalore and Calcutta charge ₹26–34 lakh. Newer IIMs charge between ₹16.28–21 lakh. These fees usually increase every year. Murthy’s scholarship neutralizes this inflation impact.

IIMA Director Bharat Bhasker praised the scholarship as “a celebration of excellence and mentorship.” Board Chairperson Pankaj Patel noted it reflects Murthy’s strong support for IIMA’s goals.

Murthy said the scholarship honors Professor Jaswant Krishnayya, who deeply influenced his early career. The IIMA Endowment Fund helped bring this idea to life and hopes it inspires more alumni to give back.
