Lukewarm Response to HSRP Number Plates in Pune Despite Deadline
HSRP number plates Pune installation continues to see a sluggish response, despite a looming deadline. As per the transport department’s directive, all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, are required to install High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) by June 30, 2025.
According to recent figures, out of the 25 lakh registered vehicles in Pune, only about 4.6 lakh have signed up online for HSRP installation, and just 2.08 lakh have actually had the plates installed as of May 22.

Pune RTO Issues Final Warning on HSRP Compliance
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a final appeal to vehicle owners, urging them to comply with the mandate. Failure to install HSRPs by the June 30, 2025 deadline will invite penalties and legal action.
To simplify the process, over 150 authorized centers have been established across Pune, along with an online registration portal. However, public response remains underwhelming.
Deputy RTO Swapnil Bhosale said, “Vehicle owners are expected to complete the process before the deadline to avoid fines.”
Citizens Report Issues with HSRP Registration
Despite the mandate, many citizens face issues with the registration process. Rahul Deshpande, an IT professional from Kothrud, shared his frustration:
“I support HSRPs for improved safety, but the process is confusing. The portal crashes, and booking confirmations are unreliable.”
