Heavy Rain Alert for Maharashtra: IMD Issues Orange Alert for Pune
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted Heavy Rain Alert in Maharashtra, especially in the Konkan region. This is due to a developing weather system over the Arabian Sea.
An upper air cyclonic circulation is currently present over the east-central Arabian Sea, near the north Karnataka-Goa coast. IMD says it may turn into a low-pressure area by Thursday. It could intensify into a depression by Friday.
Pune Under Orange Alert
Pune city is under orange alert for the next two days. The forecast includes moderate to heavy rain, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
According to IMD, the worst weather is expected between May 21 and 23 in Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra. Wind speeds could reach 60-70 kmph during thundersqualls.

Rain Likely Across Maharashtra and Gujarat
From May 21 to 25, light to moderate rain is expected in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Gujarat may also receive scattered to widespread showers.
An IMD official said, тАЬThe impact will mostly be in North Konkan. Interior areas are expected to see less activity. We are monitoring the system closely.тАЭ
Heavy Rain Warnings in Ghat Areas
IMD has issued warnings for the ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara. These areas may face very heavy rain with thunderstorms and winds reaching 50-60 kmph in isolated places.
